Uglies 2024 Netflix
2 min readUglies is a 2024 Netflix movie staring Joe King (the kissing booth) from back in the day when young fictional was being made for the big screen they overlooked this series of books and from what they came up with we can but hope they continue to pass the rest by.
The premise is another historian future where the resources of the world, or what’s left if it are split. And anyone that doesn’t conform is considered a cast out. The idea is that up until your 16th birthday you are, no matter what you look like, considered ugly. But at 16 the government will select you for a procedure to make you beautiful. Only along with the looks they alter the rest of you to fall on line.
But as usual with these things there are a small number of holdout that rebel against as they see something wrong with it.
Tally sees the truth that the beautiful do indeed not fall in with the norm, the procedure alters there brain so they don’t worry or think about anything but their life. Which just isn’t right.
This has to be a way for the writer to put forward their own thoughts on the world we live in, the value we seem to put on the beauty industry that they dictate what is and isnt normal, the fact that you cant just “be” these days without someone telling you its not right the way you look you cant just be accepted. Its not subtle here in that the outcome of the procedure is an AI ideal which has been used.
The movie is the plight of the rebels as they fight to escape their face and the world they are supposed to be part of.
Overall the story should be engaging enough to keep the audience foe the runtime, but it doesn’t. It’s so badly made and acted that it’s painful to watch, and the effects, the effects are so ludicrously bad they make you think you are watching a pre-visual pre-release version that isn’t finished.
So all in all this is not a good movie, the uglies just aren’t ugly enough they are already good looking, the procedure they all fear just seems to glam up and cgi their faces to what some AI program thinks they should see. The whole thing is just bad
And don’t get us started on the hover boards, the cis on those makes b movies look good.
Overall this is a bad movie, bad writing, bad acting, bad effects bad everything…
