Rebel Moon Part 1 (2023)

Number one on the Netflix chart for December 23 cones this new work from director Zack Snyder of justice league and others.. setting up what we can only guess is this new universe this is part one of how many, who can tell. But unfortunately the idea and the trailer are much better then the actual movie. Let’s start with the blurb from Netflix…

When a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors – outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.

That is their take on it but that’s about all there is good about this, the execution of this movie is a trainwreck. Although the idea and the trailer look great the movie is just too damn long this could have been a hour and a half but it’s not the story just seems forced and the pace too fast. In the first hour your introduced to loads of new characters but then there simply isn’t enough time to get into any actual backstory so you can’t get a feeling for who they are supposed to be in this universe. The overall story screens of a certain galaxy far far away as do the weapons they use other than here,the blasters actually blast and do some real damage. You get a feeling this is what “that” could have been with a 12 rating.

The effects are good but nothing exciting they are what we would expect from a movie of this size and ideology but they only add a bit to the story. Add on the usual luck that our heroes seem to have in a gunfight, what’s the odds that on a machine gun fight of many you won’t get hit by a round.

All ok all this movie looks like it was written fastz filmed fast, and released on a first edit. It showed promise but on the end it fails to engagrle, after just half hour I wanted to switch off bur stuck with it.

Let’s give this a 2/5 just to be kind. Let’s hope it’s ranking in their chart is enough to make a part 2 and that it gets better.
