The Kissing Booth (2018)

2 min read

Its a teen romance movie following a standard format.. There you there you go saved you having to read a full article. But if your still here.

This is indeed a romantic movie in the old sense, Elle Evans (Joey King) is a girl who has been friends since being young with Lee (Joel Courtney) they are inseparable. And they have rules, like rule 2 always keep secrets and rule 9 never date my brother. At high school the pair are members of all the geeky clubs and are dragged into organising a stallll at the annual fundraiser, they get “the kissing booth” and to raise the stakes Elle must convince the hotter broker Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi) to take part in this booth. He’s the hot one in the school so would raise the most money, in theory. But theres a catch, Elle has had a crush on Noah, forever. Come the night of the fate, she manages to convince Noah to do the booth. Blindfold they kiss and there you go, the movie is off. Elle and Noah are attracted to each other but theres just  a few little problems one of them being Rule 9.

The movie follows the antics of the two in their new relationship as they try to keep it from everyone, including Lee as they try to pair Lee of to distract him. Should she stop, follow the rules they made as children or follow her heart…

Well we follow Noah and Elle as they sneak around for a good while before… shock. They are found out, Lee finds the secret the loss of faith as she broke rule 9  and falls hard, splitting from everyone and shutting Elle, who he has known for years out of his life. We spend some time as they try to smooth things over and Elle figures out how to be with the much older Noah, they fight they split, they get back… the usual.

This is a well made Netflix movie, the cinematography is well handled, the shots are not too soppy, the story is moderately paced to keep the attention of the viewer and you find at the end you want to know… what happens next… well the good news is that there are two more movies. One to watch now, 2020 release of The Kissing Booth 2 when you see college and episode 3 to be released in 2021.

Based on Beth Reekle’s self-published coming-of-age novel that became an international sensation, THE KISSING BOOTH is a Netflix Film, written and directed by Vince Marcello.
