In lockdown you are restricted on what you can watch, so you just pick whatever they put out. This was the fact with this new series.
Back in the 90s there were several action heros, you had Van Damme, Stalone, shwartzenagger to name a few then there was Chuck Norris, if you wanted a high kicking hero that spans the decades you went for Chuck. So when it was time to do a texas ranger show, he got his pick. The show was good for the time, he held it together.. Fast forward to the 21st century and it looks like walker is getting the remake treatment. The property has lain dormant for the couple of decades where they hope viewers wont remember the original so they gave it a go.
The plot is similar, Walker (dropping the texas ranger) is a hard done by ranger, working on his own at the start, he had a traggedy in the family that will intertwine with the story for its run. His wife is killed, he is left with his two children who resent him for always working. And there you go. We have a heartwarming storyline to start as he has to make it on his own as a single parent. Cant go having a macho man these days can we.
As we go through the first couple of episodes things progress, he gets his coloured partner, like the original did, only this time they make it a woman, gotta be politically correct. And we have the chemistry to deal with.
Now this all sounds fine, but we get to a bit of a plot point here that they should have addressed, this bloke is no chuck norris, he has none of the skills, none of the technique. For a texas ranger who is supposed to be expert in all self defence we spend allot of the pilot watching him get beat in every fight.. rangers are supposed to be the best of the best and he is supposed to be an expert.. so how come the bad guys and his mates even can beat him in a fist fight? Chuck has none of that so its a shame.
All in all for a new show on the old modified idea this isnt too bad, but they have done too much to make it correct…
all in all a 3 out of 5 from me..
